Overview
Identity, collective memory and new technologies intersect to form my visual narrative.
The work of the Cadiz artist Jaime Velázquez establishes an automatic disconnection between the limits of reality and fiction. His particular dialogue between figuration and digital abstraction, sprinkled with urban language, facilitates the interpretation of everyday situations generated by the lack of coherence of current languages. Velázquez infects his work with a utopian perspective, a reality that is reflected in his paintings through characters uprooted from their own vital essence, doomed to a kind of limbo programmed by the algorithm that directs our destiny.  The moral anguish of his characters contrasts with a constant luminosity in his paintings, using bright colours and distant-looking figures, captivating the viewer and reflecting the chaotic influence of a world dominated by technology. His work aims to provoke reflection on a society trapped in the maelstrom of urban consumerism and uncertainty.

Velazquez holds a degree in Fine Arts, specialising in Engraving, Silkscreen and Graphic Design from the University of Seville, and a Master's degree in Heritage, Archaeology and Maritime History. Velazquez has exhibited his work in solo exhibitions and his work has been selected in renowned competitions and group exhibitions, such as the Rafael Zabaleta International Painting Competition and the BMW Painting Prize.
