Heritage: Lola Guerrera, Zonamaco Foto

Heritage, a return journey

Heritage is an invitation to immerse oneself in the complex essence of Andalusian women, captured through the lens of the artist Lola Guerrera. This photographic project stems from a profound dialogue with the roots of an identity that, although transformed by time, is still alive in traditions, everyday gestures and links that cross generations.

Guerrera’s images, constructed from dry nature and suspended in aerial compositions, evoke an organic connection with the past. Through these ephemeral elements, the artist reveals how values, customs and rituals flow from grandmothers to mothers, from mothers to daughters, shaping a heritage that transcends words. Each photograph is a visual poem that celebrates this transmission, symbolising not only the continuity of a legacy, but also its transformation in the present.

Inspired by the Andalusian cultural imaginary, and in particular the work of Federico García Lorca, Heritage captures the tension between fragility and resistance that defines these women. Their lives are marked by devotion to the everyday: the care of courtyards and flowerpots, the act of cooking or the perpetuation of religious and family traditions. But also by a silent strength, a capacity for endurance that Guerrera elevates to a space of contemplation.

In these pages, the delicacy of the compositions meets the strength of their message. Dry nature, in its apparent vulnerability, symbolises a resilience that stands the test of time. The floating elements in the images seem to inhabit an in-between space, suspended between what has been and what is yet to come, reminding us that inheritance is not static: it transforms with each generation, but never loses its essence.

Heritage is a tribute to that living memory, a reflection on the persistence of who we are and a celebration of what we pass on. It is a work that invites the reader to look beyond the images and to find, in their layers of meaning, their own place in this shared legacy.
