In the heart of the city

Javier de Juan - Exhibition at the MNAD, Madrid
On 3 April last, the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid opened the exhibition Javier de Juan in the heart of the city, a wide-ranging retrospective that covers more than forty years of creation by one of the most representative artists of urban and graphic art in Spain. The opening was a true cultural event, with a large number of people from the world of art and culture in Madrid, who wanted to accompany the artist and the curator, Julieta de Haro, in an atmosphere charged with emotion and recognition.

The exhibition, which can be visited until 19 October 2025, brings together more than 130 works ranging from his earliest drawings in the 1970s to his most recent works in digital and 3D art. Included are his covers for the magazine Madriz, emblematic posters created for the city of Madrid - such as those designed for San Isidro or the Davis Cup - as well as a selection of his murals, including the original sketches for the large mural at Barajas Airport. In addition to all this, there are comics, audiovisuals and pieces in different formats that reflect his versatility, his direct language and his constant dialogue with the urban space. Madrid has always been the common thread of his work, and this exhibition is also a tribute from the city to one of its creators most closely linked to it.

Since 2019, Galería Isolina Arbulu has the pleasure of representing Javier de Juan, with whom we have collaborated in various exhibitions and participated in national art fairs. This year, his work will travel for the first time to the international circuit with his presence at the Volta Basel fair, which represents an important step in the international projection of his career. We are honoured to continue working with Javier, an artist who, although he has a marked and absolutely recognisable style, never stops evolving and exploring new languages. He always surprises. And that makes him a unique artistic voice, in constant movement.

The exhibition at MNAD is a unique opportunity to approach his visual universe: powerful, ironic, intimate and urban. A profoundly contemporary gaze that continues to inspire.
