Overview

The Eternal State of Being Away invites us into the world of Claudia Torán, a young artist who delves into the experience of being in transit, living between here and there. This exhibition immerses us in a visual realm where distance and movement are constant, reflecting the sensation of always being somewhere in between. Through scenes that blend the everyday with the surreal, Torán creates a world brimming with color and theatricality, where the act of "being away" becomes a metaphor for memory and dreams—fragmented, shifting, and always in transformation.

Torán’s works, rich in contrasting elements, explore this state of distance and movement: horses in golden tones represent calm and introspection, while bicycles in vivid greens evoke an endless journey. This interplay of stillness and dynamism captures the ambiguous nature of memory, where some moments are vividly clear and others fade, leaving us in an intermediate space, perpetually in transit. Through her sculptures and paintings, Torán captures the restlessness of a young generation, full of questions, color, and energy, pushing against conventions and finding fertile ground in uncertainty.

The gallery becomes a space of simultaneous distance and nearness, where the familiar and the strange meet in continuous flow. The Eternal State of Being Away is not just an exhibition but an experience of this ongoing journey, an invitation to inhabit distance and pause, reminding us that life itself is a constant transit between what we leave behind and what remains unknown.

Uro Uro: The Eternal State of Being AwayAn exhibition by Claudia Torán, curated by Isolina Arbulu

The Eternal State of Being Away invites visitors into the imaginative world of Claudia Torán, a young artist who examines the feeling of being in transit, living perpetually between "here" and "there." This exhibition immerses us in a vivid, dreamlike landscape where distance and movement are constant companions, reflecting the sensation of always occupying an in-between state. Through her work, Torán weaves together scenes of the mundane and the surreal, crafting a visual narrative brimming with color and theatricality. The act of "being away" emerges as a powerful metaphor for memory and dreams—fragmented, ever-shifting, and always in transformation.
In this exhibition, Torán explores diverse mediums, each uniquely reflecting the fragmented experience of living between worlds. Her collages symbolize the way we pick up pieces from different places, creating a composite identity shaped by movement and transition. Ceramics and installations add a tactile dimension to the work, grounding abstract ideas in physical forms, while a mobile embodies the perpetual limbo of being neither here nor there. Together, these mediums build a multilayered experience that echoes the complexities of displacement, distance, and the fluidity of memory.
Torán’s pieces, rich with contrasting elements, further delve into this ambiguous state: golden-hued horses evoke serenity and introspection, while bicycles rendered in vibrant greens suggest the unending motion of a journey. These symbolic contrasts of stillness and dynamism reflect the way memories oscillate between clarity and haze, leaving us in a liminal space, perpetually moving yet never fully arriving. Through her dynamic sculptures and paintings, Torán captures the restlessness of a younger generation—questioning, vibrant, and brimming with energy—finding meaning and beauty in the uncertainty of life’s transitions.
The gallery transforms into a site of both connection and detachment, where the familiar meets the unfamiliar in a seamless flow. The Eternal State of Being Away is more than an exhibition; it is an invitation to embrace the experience of being in transit. Torán offers a moment to inhabit distance and pause, reminding us that life itself is a continuous journey between what we leave behind and the unknown ahead.
