Mauritania - The desert surrounds the city and engulfs it. Dirt streets connect the bustle of the city with the sea, thus turning the desert into a silence between two notes.
Mauritania was the last country in the world to abolish slavery in 1981. It took until 2007 for it to it be criminalized ... in spite of this, some estimate that up to 17% of the Haratine population is still in slavery. Many of the freed slaves continue to work for their former masters for lack of other opportunities. These roads - for many of those who walk them, really do not lead anywhere.
