Luang Pra Bang, Laos
The tak bat is a hundred-year-old Lao Buddhist monks tradition. From 5:30 in the morning locals line the street with freshly cooked sticky rice as offering to the saffron-clad monks. The ritual is done in silence. The almsgivers do not speak nor do the monks, deep in meditation.
The silent tradition supports both the monks (who need the food) and the almsgivers (who need spiritual redemption).
