Overview
Colour, form and drawing

Graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, Montserrat Gómez-Osuna creates work where color, forms, and drawing are freely distributed with an “absence of hierarchies,” rejecting rigid logic. Her compositions unfold in an anarchy guided by imagination, where the surface itself becomes the protagonist, transforming into a stage for mysterious and unsettling atmospheres.

Her shapes, difficult to identify, evoke organic structures that germinate and evolve gently and silently across the surface, leaving a subtle yet persistent presence.

She began her artistic career in 1991 with her first solo exhibition in Madrid, where she continues to live and work.

Biography

Montserrat Gómez-Osuna (b. Balsareny, Barcelona, 1964) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses on painting, ceramics, and installation. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1989). Montserrat began her artistic career in 1991 with her first solo exhibition in Madrid, where she continues to live and work.

Her work is characterized by a unique distribution of elements—color, forms, and drawing—where there is an “absence of hierarchies”. Refusing to conform to traditional logic, Montserrat creates compositions that unfold in an imaginative, ordered anarchy. In her pieces, the surface itself becomes the protagonist of mysterious and unsettling scenarios. Her forms, difficult to identify, evolve and germinate across the surface in a subtle, silent manner, never imposing but always present.

Over the past three decades, Montserrat has built an extensive exhibition history in prestigious galleries and cultural institutions across Spain. Recent exhibitions include a 2024 solo show at Galería Marta Cervera in Madrid, Palacio de Quintanar in Segovia, and an exhibition dedicated to ceramics at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo (MARCO). In 2023, she participated in the Marte Art Fair in Castellón and presented a solo show at Galería La Casa Amarilla in Zaragoza.

In 2022, Montserrat was awarded a prestigious residency at CeramicRes—the first artist residency in Spain focused exclusively on ceramic work. This experience deepened her exploration of ceramics, a medium that has become central to her practice, blending traditional techniques with innovative, contemporary forms.

Throughout her career, Montserrat has held numerous solo exhibitions at spaces such as Espacio Nexo990 in Palencia, Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid, Fundación Amelia Moreno in Toledo, and Galería Marisa Marimón in Orense. Her work has also been featured at important art fairs such as JustMad, Hybrid Art Fair, and FIG Bilbao.

Montserrat’s practice continues to evolve, embracing diverse media while maintaining a profound connection to materiality and process. From her intricate ceramic installations to her enigmatic works on paper, she consistently pushes the boundaries of form and space, creating immersive and evocative visual worlds.

Her work is included in private collections and has been exhibited at institutions such as MAC Florencio de la Fuente in Cuenca, Centro de Arte de la Carolina in Jaén, and Palacio de Quintanar in Segovia
