Fusing her passion for illustration and sound into innovative works that defy convention and captivate the viewer.
Claudia Torán (Valencia, 1991) is a Visual Artist and Doctor of Fine Arts, currently based in Madrid. She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (ES) in 2014, followed by a Master's Degree in Design and Illustration at the same institution in 2015. Subsequently, she pursued a Postgraduate Degree in Sound Art at the Universitat de Barcelona (ES) in 2021.
Her artistic practice revolves around the intersection of visual arts and music, a theme she extensively explored in her doctoral thesis titled "Illustration in the Recording Industry," completed with honors in 2018 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (ES).
While her primary medium is painting, Claudia's artistic process is open to seeking synergies and multidisciplinary projects. Her aim is to explore an art form that blurs the boundaries between image and sound, whether procedurally or conceptually.
In addition to her bold use of color and composition, Claudia's visual work demonstrates a fondness for chance, the unexpected, and traces of a free creative process. Her universe is one of poetic encounters and contradictions, resulting in a style that could be defined as figurative or abstract, everyday or surrealistic, naive or conceptual, but above all, experimental and alive.
Her solo exhibitions include "Wait!" at Maternal y Herencia (Madrid-ES) in 2024, "Some Broken Things" at Cemento (Madrid-ES) in 2023, and "Barefoot Woman Spinning in Circles on a Deserted Island" at Ruda Gallery (Madrid-ES) in 2019, among others.
Claudia has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, such as "Chaos & Stillness" at Van Der Plass Gallery (New York-USA) and "Mostra Internazionale Artes" at Febo e Dafne Gallery (Torino-IT) in 2023, and "Speak Muse" at In/Passing Gallery (New York-USA) and "Xarkis Festival" at Point Centre for Contemporary Art (Nicosia-CYP) in 2019.
Furthermore, Claudia has delivered lectures and workshops, including "Boundaries of Sound" at the Xarkis Festival (Polystypos-CYP) in 2019 and "Shapes, Colors, Abstract Nature" at the Twashukuru School of Lamu (Nairobi-KE) in 2018. She has also completed artistic residencies at Ruda Studio (Madrid-ES) and the Xarkis Festival (Polystipos-CYP) in 2019.
