Overview

My work begins with fragments of wood, blocks that condense an idea in colour, blurring the image to its essence. By merging the tones, a new meaning is born, like letters that weave a visual language. Blocks that assemble like a topographical map, while the wood, with its play of chiaroscuro, gives life, texture and depth to each piece.

Eva Menezz is an artist from Madrid with a degree in Fine Arts, whose work explores painting, sculpture and design, with a focus on the reuse of materials and volume, using wood as the main element. Her style navigates between figuration and geometric abstraction, influenced by Pop Art and Minimalism, and is characterised by a vibrant chromatic palette used in her series Blocks, Structurals and Interferences. In her work, colour is a concept of formal experimentation, where she plays with compositions and balances. She has exhibited in spaces such as the Centro Cultural Arganzuela and the White Lab Gallery, and currently runs her creative space, A Cielo Abierto Estudio, in Madrid.
Biography
Multidisciplinary artist from Madrid, graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid (2006). During her training, she obtained several scholarships that allowed her to deepen her artistic knowledge, especially about interventions in urban and rural spaces. After completing his degree, he undertook a personal project in Madrid, creating an Art School which he managed and directed for five years. During this period, he alternated his educational work with private projects that offered him the opportunity to experiment with new techniques and materials.

His work focuses mainly on painting, although he integrates other disciplines such as sculpture, drawing and design. Wood is the protagonist material in his works, with a focus on the reuse of materials, exploring their durability and resistance. Volume is a prominent element in her creation: she uses structures such as blocks, slats or panels to build compositions that emphasise the interaction of light and colour. For Eva, colour is essential, and through intense chromatic symphonies and plays of chiaroscuro, she seeks to terminate the barriers between the work and the viewer.

In the exhibition field, Menezz has presented her work in several solo shows: at the Galería Sisgaleri (2006), at the Centro Cultural Arganzuela with a retrospective entitled ‘Blocks o la fragmentación del colour’ (2021), at the Galería Sara Caso (2023), with which she collaborates as a permanent artist, and recently at the Galería White Lab with the show ‘Interferencias visuales, rompiendo la forma’ (2024).

She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Miradas06 (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 2006), the XXXVII Premio Nacional de Pintura y Artes Plásticas Enrique Ginestal (2020), the group show Ellas en Open Art Madrid of the Fundación Iberoamérica Europa (2021), the XXXVII Convocatoria de Pintura Sanvisens in Sitges (2023), the XXVI Certamen de Pintura Sala El Broncense in Cáceres (2023) and the Art Battalion and Res Futura festivals, both in 2024.

She currently lives in Madrid, where she is immersed in the research and development of her project Blocks and in the management of her workspace, A Cielo Abierto Estudio.
